2010 Workshop- "Sketching and the Finished Painting"
I am planning the next session and would like to explore the role that sketching plays in the production of the finished landscape or still life. This workshop will include plein air painting, still life color studies, and preliminary work. The session will be divided into three segments.
Segment one (April 20, 21, 22. $200)
The first segment will involve organizing, sketching, and gathering material. This will be done in the field plein air painting as the weather allows.
Segment two (May 4,5,6. $200)
The second segment will also involve organizing, sketching, and gathering material. This will be done in the studio with the still life. If the weather does not allow us to plein air paint during the first segment, we will begin with the still life and plein air paint during segment two.
Segment three (May 18,19, 20. $200)
The third segment will be a studio workshop. We will bring together our plein air and still life sketches, photographs, and preliminary work to make a larger more finished painting.
The third studio segment comes with the prerequisite of having attended either the first or second segment.

Ongoing Oil Painting Class- "Principles of Painting"
$40.00/lesson
Location: Pensacola, Florida
Dates: - Monday or Friday weekly
Contact Person: John or Nancy Ball
Artist John Ball is now accepting a limited number of students for instruction in the traditional methods of drawing and oil painting.
Lessons will be taught in oil and charcoal but the principles we discuss can be applied to any medium. Because so much of oil painting is tied to accurate drawing, lessons will start with the basics of drawing, values and rendering form in charcoal and then progress to oil painting and finished works. Of course each student is at a different stage of development and the goal would be to meet each students needs at their level.
Consistent and adequate lighting is available in the studio for daytime or evening lessons. We will have costumes for models and props for still lives. John's collection of art books, reference materials and notes will be accessible and examples of paintings (John's and others) are on hand. Those who attend sessions will have the opportunity to see gallery paintings in their stages of development.
